Rex Houston moved to Key Largo, FL with his parents in 1980 where he attended Key Largo Elementary and then went on to attend Coral Shores High School. After graduating Coral Shores High School in 1990 he worked as a bus boy for a local restaurant “The Fish House” in Key Largo for five years while commuting back and forth to Miami-Dade Community College.
In 1995 Rex then started working in the HVAC industry for his brother Dave Houston, the former owner of Houston Air. After two years as an installation helper he was promoted to a lead installer for the next three years. At that time, he moved to another local HVAC company called John’s A/C. At this company, the owner John Barth became a mentor to Rex and taught him every aspect of HVAC and Refrigeration service along with the business side of running an HVAC company.
After five years of working for John’s A/C and with ten years combined experience in the HVAC trade Rex made the leap and started his own local HVAC Company known as Rex Air. Rex Air opened its doors on January 1st, 2005. In the summer of 2015 Rex purchased a commercial building right off US1 at MM 88 where Rex Air has operated out of ever since. Rex Air has grown its business which now employees over 15 employees and has 10 trucks on the road making Rex Air one of the largest local A/C companies in the Upper Keys.
Rex’s son Levi graduated Coral Shores in 2018 and then went on to attend an HVAC technical school in Tallahassee. After graduation Levi will start in the HVAC trade as an installation helper just like his father did 25 years ago.
